Qualified experts and approval procedure
The French Highway Code (Articles L 118-1 and L 118-2) provides for the involvement of qualified experts or approved bodies in the preparation of safety reports prior to the commencement of construction work or substantial modifications to road tunnels, as well as when applications are made for the renewal of operating authorisations.
Experts and bodies are approved for a five-year duration.
They must be French-speaking and have sound knowledge and experience of French regulations and the operation of French road tunnels.
