Eclair-tunnel software
The Eclair-tunnel software performs two successive tasks:
1. It calculates the luminance requirement for the road surface at every point in the tunnel so that drivers can see obstacles in negative contrast as they drive through the tunnel.
2. It selects luminaires from a catalogue and positions them in such a way as to best approximate the previously calculated luminance requirement for the road surface.
Several parameters are taken into account when performing the calculations:
- the driver’s speed,
- the geometry of the tunnel and the portal,
- veil levels,
- average luminance: related to veil levels, related to orientation, or customised luminance,
- the photometric characteristics of the road surface,
- lighting installation constraints,
- customisable luminaires.
An advanced mode provides access to other parameters. It also allows the effect of different values for several parameters to be evaluated by comparing the solutions calculated from all possible combinations (parametric study).
The Eclair-tunnel CD-ROM also contains CETU’s guidelines on Lighting and Geometry , as well as informative documents on taking oversized vehicles into account in the vicinity of tunnels and on LED tunnel lighting.
