The impact of active transport modes in road tunnels
PIARC (World Road Association) has just published an information notein English on the impact of active transport modes in road tunnels. As part of the 2024-2027 work cycle, this document is the first deliverable from Working Group 2, ‘Impact of the development of active modes of transport in road tunnels,’ of Technical Committee 4.4, ‘Tunnels,’ in which CETU participates. This group is led by Rafael Lopez Guargua (Ministry of Transport, Spain) and Michael Potier (CETU, France).
The publication brings together an international regulatory bibliography and some twenty case studies from around the world. CETU contributed to several of these case studies, on French tunnels located in rural as well as urban areas.
Aimed at tunnel managers, designers and operators, the document provides an overview of the current international situation with regard to the integration of active mobility in road tunnels, and will serve as a basis for the subsequent drafting of a document containing recommendations and measures to be adopted..
