New AITES guideliens on BIM: key points revealed during the latest ‘Lunchtime Lectures’

The ITACET Foundation co-organises monthly webinars in English with the ITACET Committee of AITES. These webinars (known as the ‘Lunchtime Lecture Series’) are open to all, free of charge and hosted by the CETU, responsible for the Committee’s secretariat. They cover a wide range of topics of significance to the tunnelling profession, reaching a broad audience across the globe.

The March 2026 session focused on the new BIM guidelines produced by AITES WG22, entitled “BIM in Tunnelling: Guideline for Mechanised and Conventional Tunnels”. As the coordinator of this working group, the CETU naturally took part in this session, which provided an opportunity to promote and explain these new guidelines, eagerly awaited by the profession.

Indeed, this document provides a useful reference framework for all stakeholders, drawing on international experience to propose best practices regarding BIM requirements for tunnels excavated using tunnel boring machines or conventional methods.

The recording of this webinar can be viewed via the ITA-CET Foundation website.

The CETU maintains its strong involvement in BIM, through a second consecutive term as animateur of AITES WG22, as well as by leading the AFTES Working Group 45, contributing to the work of MINnD2050 and participating in the BIM Steering Committee of the European Underground & Tunnel Forum (EUTF)..
