Record attendance for the French-speaking road tunnel operators workshop on cybersecurity!

The French-speaking Working Group of Road Tunnel Operators (GTFE) met in Marseille on the 10th and 11th October 2025 at the invitation of the Aix-Marseille-Provence local authority, the operator in charge of the Prado Carénage tunnel (SMTPC), the L2 bypass operator and the departmental roads directorate, to discuss cybersecurity in road tunnels.

The meeting attracted nearly 140 members, a record attendance, demonstrating the profession’s growing concern for this challenging issue.

Among the many topics discussed were regulatory developments at the French and European levels, the inclusion of cybersecurity in safety procedures, staff awareness and training, and the adaptation of operators’ strategies.

The highly informative presentations and productive discussions with the audience highlighted the need to guard against threats and to include them among the risks to be taken into account in the operation of road tunnels.

Two technical visits were also organised, to the Tunnel Control Centre managed by Métropole Aix-Marseille-Provence and to the Schloesing underground two-way slip road connecting Boulevard Schlœsing to the Prado Carénage tunnel, managed by SMTPC. These visits were met with great interest from the participants.
