The Bielsa Aragnouet Tunnel celebrates its 50th anniversary by hosting the GTFE!

The Bielsa Aragnouet Tunnel celebrated its 50th anniversary by welcoming the French-speaking Working Group of Road Tunnel Operators (GTFE) on the 18th and 19th June 2026.

More than 80 French-speaking tunnel operators gathered in Ainsa, Spain, to discuss minimum operating conditions (MOCs) and tunnel management during exceptional circumstances.

Discussions focused in particular on:

  • ways of preparing for one-off, unforeseeable exceptional situations, as well as the compensatory measures and organisational arrangements to be put in place,
  • the measures that can be activated when specific operational situations can be anticipated (switching to two-way traffic, alternating traffic, etc.)

A wealth of practical experience was shared.

This meeting also provided an opportunity to review the latest developments from the operators present and to visit the Bielsa Aragnouet tunnel, as well as its control centre. This cross-border road tunnel in the Central Pyrenees links the upper Aure Valley with the Bielsa Valley.

Many thanks to GECT Pirineos-Pyrenées and, in particular, to Andrès Olloqui for their warm hospitality at this very successful event!
