Update on France’s tunnels: the figures for 2026 are available!

The Centre for Tunnel Studies (CETU) has just published two documents offering a comprehensive overview of the country’s underground infrastructure:

Status report on road tunnels in operation in France: a detailed analysis of the infrastructure by owner (Regional Road Directorates, local authorities, motorway companies), revealing substantial and technically advanced urban infrastructure.
Status report on all French tunnels: a comprehensive overview including rail tunnels (over 750 km in total length) as well as road and urban guided transport (TGU) tunnels. This document highlights the strong historical momentum of construction and presents current major projects.
