Cycles in road tunnels: a new CETU publication

In 2024, CETU launched a specific research programme on the integration of active mobility in existing road tunnels. In order to build up a database of information and communciate on initial feedback, an initial document on cycle transit has just been published.

For each tunnel studied, the document presents the specific measures implemented, traffic data where available, and feedback in terms of usage and accident statistics. Each facility is analysed according to specific criteria such as road sharing and the management of speed differences between cyclists and motorised vehicles. Based on these analyses, CETU will continue its work and evaluate certain aspects further with a view to defining future recommendations.
